L’univers musical de Leiden est empreint de contrastes. La dualité vocale entre un chant féminin mélodique et un chant masculin guttural permet au groupe d’embrasser une large palette d’émotions, mêlant ainsi à la beauté les sentiments les plus noirs. Cet antagonisme est également perceptible dans la musique où des guitares acérées et pesantes, portées par une rythmique lourde et mécanique, viennent se poser sur des violons mélancoliques, vecteurs d’une profondeur sombre et enivrante. On notera également la présence de séquences électroniques qui confèrent au tout une dimension futuriste et originale.
L’album “Dualité” (2005) a été enregistré et mixé par Yannick Tournier (Agora Fidelio, Psykup...) et masterisé par Jean-Pierre Bouquet (Lofofora, Sidilarsen, Black Bomb A,Psykup,...)
Historique :
Leiden se forme en mai 2000. Le groupe est à l’époque composé de Bérangère au
chant, Wilfried au chant / guitare / programmation de la boîte à ryhtmes et des machines, Ludo à la guitare et David à la basse. Une 1ere Démo, “Songs in the key of dark”, voit le jour en juin 2000. Ce premier opus permet au groupe de se faire connaître dans le milieu du métal underground. Les chroniques sont positives et nombreuses.
Très rapidement, le groupe enregistre son 1er Maxi “L’Aube Spirituelle” (2001) qui bénéficiera d’une coproduction avec le label Adipocere et permettra au groupe d’obtenir une distribution nationale.
Le groupe intègre ensuite le collectif Antistatic réunissant les groupes Psykup, Sidilarsen, Delicatessen et Mary Slut. Shadow remplace David à la basse.
Des concerts s’ensuivent et le groupe se remet au travail pour réaliser son1er album. Matt (batterie) les rejoint alors au sein du groupe.
Leiden signe chez le label Adipocere Records. L’album “Empty” voit le jour en 2003 et bénéficiera d’une distribution nationale et européenne. Après avoir rejoint le tourneur Jerkov, le groupe effectue une tournée nationale .
En 2005, Leiden signe chez le label Jerkov Musiques pour son 2ème album “Dualité”(sortie le 08 octobre 2005.)
Leiden a partagé la scène avec : Gojira, Black Bomb A, After Forever, Punish yourself, Atrocity, Leave’s eyes, Svinkels, Psykup, Lycosia, Nihil, Sidilarsen, Dark Moor, Grief of Emerald, Manimal, Empalot, Rain, Scarve, Oversoul, Anorexia Nervosa, Mary Slut, Sybreed …

Dualité (Jerkov Musiques/Mosaic Music 2005):
Leiden’s new record proposes 11 very diverse dark and bewitching Gothic-metal songs, taking us along a musical universe full of different moods and atmospheres.
The vocal duality between the heavenly melodic female voice and the strong grunts allows the band to embrace a large emotionnal field, mixing the beauty with the darkests feelings. This antagonism also appears in the music : heavy as hell, straight to the point guitars and mechanical rythms meet melancholic violins, soft electronic beats and digital sequences leading to a modern, deep and dark atmosphere.
The album “Dualité” (2005) was recorded and mixed by Yannick Tournier (Agora Fidelio, Psykup) and mastered by Jean-Pierre Bouquet (Lofofora, Sidilarsen, Black Bomb A, Psykup).
Bio :
LEIDEN rised from the ashes of IN LUPUS PACIS in May 2000 with Bérangère (female leading vocals), Wilfried (grunts, guitar, programmation), Ludo (guitar) and David (bass).
“Songs in the key of dark”, the first demo, came out only a month after, in June of the same year. This first release spreads LEIDEN’s musical disease all over the underground metal and the firsts echoes and chronics are extremely good.
Very soon after this first demo, the band will release its first self-financed e.p, “L’Aube Spirituelle” (2001), in collaboration with Adipocere Records for a national distribution in France.
Growing stronger and stronger, LEIDEN is becoming an active part of the famous Antistatic collective along with bands such as Psykup, Sidilarsen, Delicatessen and Mary Slut.
The first and only change of line-up came with Shadow replacing David (bass).
In 2002 LEIDEN will play old and new material on several stages and will soon begin the work on its first long effort.
With the coming of Matt (drums) the line-up is now complete and LEIDEN ready to record “Empty”, released in 2003 on Adipocere Records in France and also all over Europe. The success of this album, both of fans and medias, opened a lot of doors to LEIDEN: the band signed a new deal with Jerkov Musiques (for both touring and next record) and embarks on its first and very successful national tour.
The high acclaimed “Dualité”, second effort of LEIDEN, came out in France in October 2005 and shows a more mature and professionnal band than before. With this new album, the band obtained its best reviews so far in all french and european press.
Leiden had already played with bands such as: Gojira, Epica, Black Bomb A, After Forever, Punish yourself, Nightmare, The Old Dead Tree, Atrocity, Leave’s eyes, Svinkels, Psykup, Lycosia, Sidilarsen, Dark Moor, Manimal, Empalot, Scarve, Oversoul, Anorexia Nervosa… And many more.
